Satoshi

Definition

A Satoshi is the smallest indivisible unit of Bitcoin, named after its pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. One Satoshi is equal to 0.00000001 Bitcoin (BTC), or one hundred millionth of a Bitcoin. This unit of measurement is used to facilitate microtransactions and express values in Bitcoin more conveniently, especially when dealing with amounts smaller than one Bitcoin. The use of Satoshis allows for greater precision in transactions, pricing, and accounting within the Bitcoin network. As Bitcoin's value has increased, referencing smaller units like Satoshis has become more practical for everyday transactions and economic activities involving the cryptocurrency.
